Marion
“Skeeter” Hirschburg and Don Reynolds formed the
firm in 1937. Hirschburg and Reynolds concentrated their practice on
tax, business, estate planning, and probate law. One of the firm's most
notable cases was its defense of the State of Iowa's county treasurers
in Chicago & N.
W. R. Co. v. Iowa State Tax Comm.,
257 Iowa 1359, 137 N.W.2d 246 (1965). Other significant
reported decisions include H.
L. Munn Lumber Co. v. City of
Ames, 176 N.W.2d 813 (Iowa 1970); Wright v. Town of Huxley,
249 N.W.2d 672 (Iowa 1978); Knight
v. Iowa Dist. Court, 269 N.W.2d 430
(Iowa 1978).
The firm's
philosophy
over all of our
history
has been simply to provide the best
quality legal services with
attention to details and with personal attention to the client. We
still see the practice of law as a professional calling, and not as a
mere occupation. Our attorneys give personal attention to each matter
that our clients bring to us.
The firm
originally
operated from a second story office
on Main Street. The firm has continuously operated in Ames and Story
County since that time. The firm relocated to and has remained at 618
Douglas Avenue in Ames since 1968.
We are a leader
in
using technology to bring efficient services to our clients. When other
lawyers were still trying to find the "on" switch, Don Smith had a
computer on his desk. It did not just serve as a paperweight or a door
stop. It was a good decision then to put production tools in the
lawyers' offices, and the firm has never looked back.
